Cycling in Bormio is for everyone. Every year Bormio welcomes thousands of cyclists: from the professionals to the enthusiasts or those simply wanting to experience cycling in Valtellina. For hardcore cyclists the main objective is to climb the iconic Alpine passes (Gavia, Stelvio and Mortirolo); for everyone else there is a wide choice of cycle paths for both road and mountain bike, like the Sentiero della Valtellina, which stretches for over 100km between Bormio and Colico at the top of Lake Como.
Mountain bikers have abundant options, there are many Adrenaline pumping trails for the MTB enthusiasts.
An important event which attracts a lot of interest is the Alta Valtellina Bike Marathon, withing the Stelvio National Park. The 100km Marathon and 76Km Classic courses are widely celebrated.
Bormio and surroundings offer a wealth of itineraries for mountain biking among passes and trails in a still pristine natural environment: Val Zebrù, Val Viola, Cancano lakes, everywhere nature invites you to enjoy the view while cycling.
For the adrenaline seeker, the Bormio Bike Park is a must, it offers many trails for the mountain bike enthusiasts. Cross country, freeride and donwhill are the disciplines on offer along an unsurpassed 1800m vertical drop.
Stelvio Experience gives you the chance to live the emotions of the world on two wheels. Carbon fibre bike rental, guides, group rides suitable for different levels. Many of the guided tours climb the most renownded mountain passes like Stelvio, Mortirolo and Gavia.
Stelvio Experience offers cycling enthusiats an aventure rich calendar; during the whole week riders can choose their preferred itineraries. A truly unique and fascinating experience is the Evening Ride. Every Sunday night there is a group ride under the stars to Cancano Lakes or other spectacular destinations.
In summer cycling races and events are frequent and attract many enthusiasts from Italy and abroad.
One of the first races of the season is the Grandfondo Stelvio Santini which this year is on Sunday, 2 June.
In July, then, there is the Re Stelvio Mapei, a tradition for almost 30 years on the mighty Stelvio Pass.
Another very popular event is the non competitive climb up the Cima Coppi. The Stelvio road will be closed to the traffic during the event days on both Italian and Swiss sides.
Not to be missed is the Contador Day. Sport enthusiasts and amateurs have the chance to climb up Mortirolo and Gavia cycling with the great champion Alberto Contador.
